PENGARUH WAKTU REAKSI PADA KONVERSI α-PINEN MENJADI TERPINEOL MENGGUNAKAN KATALIS ASAM SULFAT

ABSTRACT

Research has been done on the effect of reaction time on the conversion of α-pinene into terpineol using sulfuric acid catalyst. α-pinene conversion process is done using a terpineol hydration method with variations of reaction time 1 hour, 4 hours, 5 hours, 6 hours, and 7 hours. Mixture used was α-pinene, H2SO4, and water in the ratio 1: 1: 5 in refluxing acetone medium at a temperature of 80-85°C. Subsequent reaction products were analyzed using GC-MS instrument and GC. The results showed that the optimum time of conversion of α-pinene into terpineol on reaction time 6 hours by the number of α-pinene is converted selectivity of 82.2% and 60.21% terpineol.
