ABSTRACT

The application of MAOS method (Microwave Assisted Organic Synthesis) on purple basil (Ocimum Canum, Sims) essential oil has been done research. In this research, the KF/Al2O3 was used as a catalyst using glycerol and ethylen glicol as solvent. The catalyst was characterized by FT-IR. The results show that there are three spectra: K3AlF6, KOH and K2CO3 which are found on the catalyst. The result of optimization time and concentration were obtained 6 min at KF/Al2O3 10% for glycerol solvent, and 2 min at KF/Al2O3 20% for ethylene glycol solvent. Purple basil essential oil with 1 month of whitering plant consist of 13 compounds in which methyl eugenol is the main component. After the reaction, partly of methyl eugenol is converted to trans-metil isoeugenol. Purple basil essential oil with 1 month of whitering plant consist of 14 compounds. After the reaction partly of the main component is converted into other compounds but not seen any product that formed methyl isoeugenol.
